Add to my Calendar 22-06-2018 20:00 22-06-2018 22:00 36 Vivaldi Concertos by Candlelight Britain’s busiest Chamber Ensembles venture to St Giles' Cathedral with an evening packed full of Baroque favourites. London Concertante was founded in 1991 and has gone on to garner an outstanding international reputation. Alongside regular series of concerts at St. Martin-in-the-Fields and Southwark Cathedral, the ensemble also performs across the length and breadth of the UK. International tours have taken them to the USA, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Finland, and they will be touring to Italy and again to Spain later in the year. Their numerous recordings receive regular airplay on global radio stations, and has helped to secure their position at the forefront of Classical performers in the UK. The programme features a favourite of performers and audiences alike, Vivaldi’s “La Follia” with variations on the well-known 17th Century melody that translates in English as, ‘the madness’.  The piece rises and falls in intensity throughout with the variations running the gamut of emotions with changes in speed and mood along the way.  Alongside this, the programme includes Vivaldi’s iconic “Summer” from his Four Seasons, with its sheer virtuosity, amongst moments of haunting melancholy. In amidst the works of Vivaldi sees a piece by another Baroque maestro, J. S. Bach, and his magnificent Concerto for Two Violins, with its exciting, energetic opening and particularly sublime slow second movement If you don’t consider yourself ‘in the know’ about Mozart, Beethoven, or Bach, fear not, this is the orchestra for you. The London Concertante boasts a remarkable audience record in which an impressive 50% of spectators are first time classical concert goers!
