Programme Note

This evening's presentation will include Victor Braojos in conversation with Martin Roscoe and Dr Elena Vorotko.  Victor will also perform a selection of pieces from the new CD Shreds of light.

Shreds of light (Sheva Collection, 2021) is a deeply personal recording which leads us through a wide range of feelings experienced by the artist over the last difficult two years, presenting a chiaroscuro musical journey full of shadows and lights.

The musical canvas starts with the majestic initial chords and nobility of Bach’s Keyboard Partita No.2, suddenly leading to the obscure self-reflection of Brahms’ Intermezzi Op.117, followed by the feeling of loss of naivety, rage and final acceptance of Migo’s mesmerising Epitaph, which sets up the atmosphere for the mighty Liszt Sonata in B minor, a summit of piano literature which, after a colossal battle between light and darkness, closes the journey bringing us back some hope and remembering us that light is always able to find a narrow slit through which enlighten our spirits again.
