Programme Note

In 2014 Ji Liu’s debut CD Piano Reflections was released by Classic FM to critical acclaim and immediately went on to become No.1 in the classical charts.  Earlier this year it was nominated as the Classical Album of the Year in the prestigious 2015 Chinese Music Awards.

Over the last year Ji has appeared as soloist with the Philharmonia and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestras in the UK and China.  He performed Bach’s Goldberg Variations at Wigmore Hall and the Bristol Proms, and gave recitals in the Nottingham International Piano Series and Bath International Festival.  In January Classic FM released his second CD - Encore - and in 2016 a third CD will be released.

Future engagements include appearances as soloist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko, and the premiere of a new concerto by Einaudi. He makes his debut at the Kuhmo Foundation in Seoul, and gives recitals at Wigmore Hall, the Théȃtres des Variétés Monaco and Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Born in 1990, Ji Liu studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the Escuela Música Reina Sofía and at the Royal Academy of Music. He was selected by YCAT in 2013.
