Programme Note
The Birth of Time (Piano Melodies for Adrián, Vol. 2) is a piano-solo album (except for 3 duets) composed by composer and pianist Alexis Alonso, written in his son’s memory. In this work you can enjoy the talent of this Spanish musician mixing wonderful melodies and emotional improvisations who’s enjoying overwhelming success among audience and musical critics.
The concert will feature themes from Alexis' album The Birth of Time (2016), and also include some tracks from his previous album,El Paisaje (2014). Both albums complete the “Piano Melodies for Adrián Vol 1 & 2” series.
The story of Alexis Alonso is one of the most unusual in the landscape of contemporary music and jazz. He began his career in the field of rock (May Day, Siglo XXI) and jazz (Nine Seconds Quartet) then moved to develop his work as composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist in Estudios Ignis (Tenerife, Spain). He has composed numerous soundtracks for cinema and advertising emphasising his particular elegance and pursuit of extreme beauty...
In 2012 Alexis' life took a turn marked by tragedy, his son Adrian died unexpectedly at the age of three years creating a 'before' and an 'after' in the trajectory of the Spanish musician. Alexis quickly realised that there was a need to transform into music what happened inside him and decided to embark on the adventure of composing an album only for piano. The result of this work was El Pasaje (Piano Melodies for Adrián, Vol.1) (2014). This album was unanimously acclaimed by the critics in Spain and gave a brilliant launch for Alexis as a composer and solo pianist. The subsequent tour highlighted his capacity to transmit feelings with his exciting improvisations with melodies and his undeniable personal charm.
The Birth of Time
In 2015 Alexis was nominated for best short film score at the prestigious Fimucité Festival for the soundtrack of "Nocturno". In 2016 he published The Birth of Time, the second and final part of the Piano Melodies for Adrian works which aims to appeal to an international market.
"The Birth of Time shows Alexis Alonso in his element, halfway between jazz and contemporary music, amazing at all levels, the emotion of his music takes the listener on an adventure that will live on in their memory..."
