Programme Note

Come and hear the Gems of the concert hall in Nottingham’s Albert Hall on Saturday 26th March at 7.30pm.   Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra has chosen four unique pieces, introducing the concert with an Overture, written in 1834 by French composer Louise Farrenc.  She was a composer admired by both Berlioz and Schumann.  We follow with Mozart’s popular Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola, played by our leader Clare Bhabra and viola principal Ann-Marie Shaw.  Coleridge-Taylor wrote his Othello Suite in 1909, commissioned by His Majesty’s Theatre, London for the Shakespeare play; ‘incidental music rich with haunting melodies’.  The concert concludes with Schumann’s 3rd Symphony, full of wonderful melodies and dramatic rhythms.
