Programme Note

The 100 voices of City of Bristol Choir perform two works rich in soaring lyricism and sumptuous harmonies – Fauré’s Requiem, and Rheinberger’s Cantus Missae in E flat.

Gabriel Fauré’s setting of the Requiem is one of the best-loved pieces in the choral repertoire. Its beautiful melodies and powerful rhythms speak to the deepest emotions, pleading for rest and calm, both for the world and in the individual.

Rheinberger’s wonderfully lyrical and expressive mass setting is written for unaccompanied double choir. It draws on the tradition of opulent Venetian multi-choir motets but from the outset is imbued with Rheinberger’s musical language, with rich textures and harmonies.

The ticket price includes a glass of wine or soft drink at the interval.
