Programme Note

Brahms’ A German Requiem is a highly personal work: a humanist Requiem, focused not on judgment of the dead but on solace for those left behind, full of tenderness, comfort, and music of the most transcendent beauty. It is paired with the rarely-performed Elegiac Ode by Stanford, a highly attractive work by one of Brahms’ most ardent disciples. Our soloists are amongst the finest young singers working in Britain today.
