Haydn: Nelson Mass, Mozart: Coronation Mass, J C Bach: Magnificat

An evening of glorious classical works

Add to my Calendar 20-11-2021 19:30 20-11-2021 21:30 36 Haydn: Nelson Mass, Mozart: Coronation Mass, J C Bach: Magnificat On Saturday 20 November at 7.30 pm you can join with Kingston Choral Society in celebrating their return to the stage at All Saints Kingston after almost two years as they perform a glorious programme of classical works. Mozart’s grand Coronation Mass is paired with a charming Magnificat by Johann Christian Bach, before Haydn’s mighty Nelson Mass provides a stirring climax. Appropriately, this wonderful piece is subtitled Mass in troubled times.  In it clouds gather ominously before Haydn’s irrepressible spirit shines through, and joy triumphs over adversity. It’s been a troubled time for KCS members and for live music too, but the spirit of camaraderie, a shared love of singing, and the inspiring leadership of Musical Director Andrew Griffiths have kept the choir going, and offered valued social and emotional support to members isolated during the various lockdowns.  The 20 November concert is conducted by Andrew Griffiths, who has an enviable reputation as a conductor of opera and choral music. He has conducted for The Royal Opera, The Royal Ballet, Welsh National Opera, Opera North and Bampton Classical Opera and regularly broadcasts with the BBC Singers. The choir is singing alongside soloists: Anita Watson (soprano), Catherine Hopper (alto) Nick Pritchard (tenor) and Ashley Riches (bass). Local favourites the Purcell Orchestra, with organist Aeron Glyn-Preston, provide the music. Tickets are on sale for £8-£16.
