Programme Note

Laughton Village Choir continue their tradition of closing the Villages Music Festival with a concert of three Georges. George Frederick Handel wrote Zadok the Priest for the Coronation of George II in 1727, and it has been played at every coronation since. In 2016 it is offered as a celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday. The third George is Handel’s compatriot and friend Georg Philip Telemann, whose Tafelmusik suite continues the celebratory theme. The choir will round off with Vivaldi’s justly popular Gloria. Berwick Baroque will be joined by guest trumpet Alice Boileau.
