Classical Gems and 20th Century dance music

Add to my Calendar 28-09-2024 19:30 28-09-2024 21:30 36 Helix Ensemble in Ockbrook Helix Ensemble is bringing a wonderful concert to All Saints’ Church, Ockbrook on Saturday 28th September at 7.30pm.  The programme includes some familiar classical pieces including Mozart’s 5th Violin Concerto, with young local soloist George Boyes, and a piece written in the 20th Century, Aldemaro Romero’s Fuga con Pajarillo for strings, a lively piece of dance music contrasted with a fugue, which will make you tap your feet!  As always, Helix Ensemble loves to bring you a mix of beautiful music in quiet places.   Our soloist George Boyes from Duffield is only 17 but has already performed Bruch’s violin concerto in Nottingham and given several recitals.  He is applying to Music Colleges this autumn and is looking forward to playing the Mozart Concerto with Helix.  We welcome the return of Musical Director Dan Watson who has worked with many orchestras in the East Midlands and Birmingham, and lives in Leicestershire.   As well as music by Mozart and Romero we are playing Haydn’s Symphony No 8, ‘Le Soir’, the last of a set of three symphonies commissioned by Prince Esterhazy of Vienna with the times of day, Morning, Noon and Evening as inspiration.  Jo Conquest and Jane Bevan are our soloists in the Cimerosa Concerto for Two Flutes, a sparkling piece that showcases the instruments really well.
