Programme Note

Cardiff Polyphonic Choir return to All Saints Church in Penarth for what promises to be a stunning culmination of our 60th anniversary year.

Our programme centres on Durufle’s setting of the Requiem mass. Composed in 1947, the Requiem has earned its place as one of the masterpieces of its genre. Like much of Durufle’s music, it draws heavily on plainsong. It has been said that the effect of Durufle’s setting is an interplay between a vision of hope and a sense of spiritual struggle. We aim to convey the intense drama of this battle through our interpretation and performance.

Alongside the Requiem, we will be performing works including Pierre Villette’s Tu es Petrus, Richard Vaughan’s Justorum Animae, Anton Bruckner’s Ave Maria and Christus factus est, and Josef Rheinberger’s Abendleid.

We will be conducted by Thomas Blunt, accompanied by Philip Aspden, and joined by outstanding soloists, Monika Sawa and Owain Rowlands.

After the concert, please join us for a celebratory wine reception as we toast six decades of music—and look ahead to the next chapter.

We hope you can join us!
