Programme Note
The Lambeth Orchestra gave its first concert in 1972 and ever since has pursued a policy of performing minor works of major composers and major works of minor composers, as well as the standard concert repertoire. In 2015 Christopher Fifield conducted a recorded public performance of Frederic Cliffe's Symphony no.2 in E minor.
In May 2012, Vashti Hunter became the first British cellist ever to be awarded a prize at the International Cello Competition ‘Prague Spring’ in its 65 year history. She won her Laureate title playing the Dvorak cello concerto, conducted by Koji Kawamoto with the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra in Dvorak Hall, Rudolfnium, Prague. Vashti has performed in other prestigious halls throughout Europe.
