Programme Note
As the grey days of winter recede, the Concordia Chamber Choir stretches its musical muscles with a concert of ground-breaking 20th century choral works. In an eclectic programme, three remarkable composers are featured: Herbert Howells, Benjamin Britten and Arnold Bax. Some pieces will be familiar like Britten's 'Rejoice In The Lamb', a joyous celebration of how the different creatures of this world worship the Lord. Others are arguably less-known, such as Howells' Take Him Earth For Cherishing' composed in commemoration of President Kennedy and, perhaps most extraordinary of all, Howells' Requiem, a searingly moving, intensely personal piece written in the 1930s but not performed till half a century later. So shake off those post-Christmas cobwebs, come out of hibernation and join us for another memorable evening with one of south London's most prestigious and talented choirs. We look forward to seeing you.
