Programme Note

Join us on Wednesday 21st July for a special celebration of Beethoven with the Foyle-Štšura Duo. Michael Foyle and Maksim Štšura took on a project in July 2020, during the pandemic, to record the complete cycle of Beethoven’s Piano and Violin Sonatas on the Challenge Classics Label.

This was a special project, recorded in the middle of the international lockdown in Mechelen, Belgium, the home of Beethoven’s ancestors. Beethoven’s ‘struggle to victory’ narrative archetypes and emotional scope speak to us now with greater intensity than ever.

Volume 1 (of 3) was released in November 2020 and Volume 2 was released earlier this month.
