On Saturday 9 May 2026, the magnificent surroundings of Bath Abbey will resonate with the powerful and moving sounds of Sir Edward Elgar’s masterpiece, The Dream of Gerontius. This profound work traces the soul’s journey from life through death and into the unknown beyond, unfolding a rich tapestry of wonder, fear and hope, with moments of darkness set against radiant choirs of angels.
Bringing together the combined voices of the Wiltshire-based Malmesbury Singers and The Athenaeum Singers, alongside the Bath Philharmonia, this performance breathes life into Cardinal John Henry Newman’s celebrated poem in Elgar’s deeply expressive and evocative setting.
