Our concert begins with Mozart’s lively Overture to The Magic Flute and continues with Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony - although never completed, this lyrical piece has become one of Schubert’s best-loved works. The choir, orchestra and a superb line of soloists then join forces to perform Haydn’s dramatic Nelson Mass. This is Haydn’s 11th Mass setting and surely one of his finest, starting with a powerful Kyrie and ending with an exuberant final chorus, while the contrasting central movements include some beautiful solo sections and a spirited fugue.
