This production tells Monteverdi’s tragic love story of Tancredi and Clorinda. Tancredi, a crusader, and Clorinda, a Saracen, become lovers, and are separated by their peoples’ conflict. They meet in battle, and, being armoured, do not recognise one another during their fight until it's too late, and Tancredi has struck Clorinda down. In this production, ATP have expanded Monteverdi’s original scene with other madrigals by the composer to make a longer narrative. The story is told via contemporary dance, with dancers playing the two protagonists. Brian Clarke, the artist, has lent the company three of his stained glass screens to use in the production.
