It features composers William Alwyn, George Butterworth, Samuel Barber, Rebecca Clarke and Ivor Gurney, setting poets including Yeats, Housman, Masefield and Edward Thomas. The earliest works in the programme are George Butterworth's 'Six Songs from A Shropshire Lad' and the latest, William Alwyn's 'Mirages' and Samuel Barber's Op. 45 nos 1-3, were first performed in 1974.
