Programme Note
The Bournemouth Symphony Chorus proudly presents the London première of Pietà, a major cantata commissioned from Richard Blackford. A powerful setting of the Stabat Mater for mezzo soprano, baritone, strings and saxophone, with additional poems by the Russian Anna Akhmatova embracing the theme of a mother’s love for her son, is performed by distinguished soloists who join the Chorus, the BS Youth Chorus and the BSO under Gavin Carr, the work’s dedicatee.
The first half includes a world première, Canticle of Winter by Richard Blackford, for saxophone & strings.
Duration: approx. 2 hours (incl. interval)
