Programme Note

The main work in the programme is Mendelssohn's "Hymn of Praise", one of the great 19th century choral masterpieces. It will be preceded by a rare opportunity to hear the cantata "Praise God" by the Russian composer, Gretchaninoff. Written in 1914, it sets 3 psalms in music grounded in the rich choral traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church. An exciting team of young soloists will join with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera for this unique celebration  which will make a fitting conclusion to Dundee Choral Union's 160th Anniversary year.
