The historic performance by Ernest Lough of ‘O for the Wings of a Dove’ became the world’s first recording to sell a million copies. Fauré’s Requiem is admired for its understated depth, lyrical warmth and intensity. Less obviously dramatic than Verdi and Brahms, but of an equal stature, and a favourite for choir singers. Schubert’s enchanting Mass in G reveals the rich vein of lyricism and passion which was to follow throughout his short but prolific life. This is a concert of delight and also includes Felix Mendelssohn Hear my Prayer (O for the Wings of a Dove), Richard Wagner Siegfried Idyll and Franz Schubert Mass in G.
