Programme Note

This performance of Verdi's mighty Requiem is the culmination of the 2019 Chester Choral Week, taking place at the University of Chester.

This unashamedly theatrical version of the Requiem Mass was completed in 1874 and requires large choral and orchestral forces, together with four soloists.

The Chester Choral Week, a week-long choral course celebrates, this year, its 25th Anniversary.  After twelve of them based in Harrogate , the Choral Week moved to Surrey in August 2007, and has now relocated to Chester.  It is unequivocally established as a major national choral event compassing a wide variety of choral styles, with singers travelling to Chester from all parts of Britain and Europe.  The 150 strong North of England Festival Chorus, with its professional orchestra, is comprised of all the members of the Choral Week.
