Programme Note

The final concert in the season is a performance of Russian music. Richard Howarth will conduct the orchestra in a performance of Balakirev’s Overture on Three Russian Songs, Koussevitzky’s Double Bass Concerto, In the Steppes of Central Asia by Borodin and finally Tchaikovsky’s Symphony Number Five. The soloist and winner of the Chester Philharmonic/Chetham’s Concerto prize is Hannah Godfrey-Clarke. This concert concludes the 2016/17 ‘High Fives Season’ but, at the time of writing, it is proposed to continue the theme into 2017/18 with a performance of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony.
