Libera has previously performed in the cathedral in 2010 and now they are returning with a new generation of singers. The programme will include classic Libera favourites as well as some brand new arrangements and compositions. Background The magical sounds of Libera enchant audiences across the world - from Toronto to Tokyo, from Westminster to Washington and even on Viking cruise ships. The boys' distinctive white robes recall Libera's traditional origins, yet their music reaches across the generations to a wide audience. The unique sound of Libera is impossible to pigeonhole, but it appeals to fans worldwide. The singers of Libera are aged seven to sixteen. They come from many backgrounds, attending schools in South London. Although they are boys and they sing, they do not think of themselves as choirboys, but rather as an alternative kind of boy band. Since their last UK cathedral concert in May 2022 the boys of Libera have performed 17 concerts and made 2 festival appearances in the UK, Japan, the USA and South Korea. Libera regularly features in album charts. In the summer of 2023, the new album ‘Forever’ soared high in the classical charts in the UK, USA and Japan. This album features music in a variety of styles, including songs based on classical works such as Albinoni’s solemn Adagio in G minor, Frisina’s hymn Anima Christi, and Libera’s original take on mainstream hits such as God Only Knows by the Beach Boys and Love Shine a Light by Katrina and the Waves. Libera has a highly visible presence online with over 180 million views on their own YouTube Channel and millions more across other channels, and millions of plays on Spotify and other streaming platforms. It is familiar to UK audiences through TV appearances and performances at a broad range of venues - from Westminster Cathedral to the South Bank in London, to the Edinburgh Festival and many UK cathedrals. The boys are regularly to be heard on Classic FM and Scala Radio, and they appear on TV programmes like Songs of Praise. Libera boys have travelled the world and sung to millions. But, as one of them said, “The travelling and filming is fun but even if we didn’t go anywhere I’d still want to do it because I just love singing.” Watch our video of Albinoni’s Adagio in G minor   Chester Cathedral, Chester DD/MM/YYYY
