Programme Note
The Parish of Esher Choir and Barisons Chamber Choir with the Montague Ensemble, conducted by Stuart Whatton, present Karl Jenkins' popular cantata exploring themes of war and peace in a series of powerful musical tableaux.
The 13 movements of the cantata include traditional movements of the Latin Requiem Mass including the Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei, as well as setting poetry by Kipling, Dryden, Swift, Mallory and Tennyson, biblical excerpts from the Psalms and Book of Revelation, the Hindu epic Mahabharata and the Muslim call to prayer.
The cantata will be performed with organ, piano, percussion and chamber instrumentation, and the whole work lasts a little over an hour. Light refreshments will be served after the performance.
