Programme Note

A feast of polyphony! In July’s concert, Pinsuti, assisted by invited guest singers to make up the numbers, will be performing two 40-part works from the 16th century - Tallis’s stunning “Spem in alium” and Striggio’s “Ecce beatam lucem”, alongside Allegri’s “Miserere”.

We will use the superb acoustic of Christ Church to its best advantage, singing in the round, so that our audience experiences the sound emerging all around them. “Spem in alium” in particular is a fabulous, complex piece of music, with soaring soprano lines and moving interplays of the lower voices, the music rising and falling as each choir enters and leaves.

It is a real treat to combine these two major works with the beautiful, mystical “Miserere” by Allegri - which brings a new meaning to a ‘soaring soprano’.

The regular choir will also perform the delightful “Beati quorum via” by Stanford, and some more of the music by Paulus, the American composer known for his opera “The postman always rings twice”.  We love his lyrical melodies and soft harmonies, and trust you will too.

It should be an evening to remember - do come and join us!
