Programme Note
Pinsuti's next concert is once more in the wonderful setting of Christ Church in Skipton. We love performing here as it has a fantastic acoustic and also has the benefit of reasonably comfy chairs!
It should be an exciting evening. The first half contains many delights from Shakespeare's time, including works by Tallis: “Salvator mundi”, “O nata lux”, “Miserere Nostri” and Gibbons: “This is the record of John”, “O all true faithful hearts”. In a fascinating pairing, the Gibbons version of “Drop, drop, slow tears” is followed by the recent setting by Mealor of the same text. To end the first half, guest singers join us to perform the stunning work in 40 parts by Tallis, “Spem in alium”.
The second half includes secular music of the same period, then four of the Victorian Macfarren's Shakespeare songs. The evening ends with the challenging, quirky, upbeat and potentially surprising Shakespeare songs by the Finnish composer Mäntyjärvi. Come along and join us for a lovely evening.
