Programme Note

To celebrate the reopening of the cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris, Grange Choral Society brings you a selection of French music. Much of our concert features the magnificent Nicholson pipe organ of Christchurch Priory.

Gabriel Faure; Cantique de Jean Racine. Composed at the age of 19, the piece takes its inspiration from a Hymn of Praise written by Jean Racine.

Louis Vierne; Messe Solennelle. A beautiful sacred work composed for choir and two organs. First performed in Paris.

Charles-Marie Widor; Toccata.  One of the most famous works of this prominent French organist who was for many years organist at the Basilica of Saint Sulpice in Paris.
