Programme Note
On a wintery evening, Commotio invites you to the warm atmosphere of SJE Arts for a concert packed with Advent cheer. Commotio's inaugural concert seventeen years ago featured A boy was born and, with four of the original members still singing, the choir is delighted to reprise Britten's early masterpiece.
Perhaps best loved by choristers for the rambunctious Torches, John Joubert's other carols are miniature gems. Commotio is pleased to sing three of these in anticipation of his 90th birthday in March 2017. Commotio will perform carols by two composers with whom the choir has enjoyed close links, and whose works it has successfully recorded. Francis Pott's Adam lay ybounden and Richard Allain's The Magi's Gifts have already become firm favourites with the choir
The programme will also include a previously unpublished carol by Bernard Rose in his centenary year, and Alfred Desenclos' Noël des Flandres will receive its UK premiere; the rich, exotic textures and harmonies reminiscent of his contemporaries, Messiaen and Daniel-Lesur.
