We are pleased to welcome back Chloe Martindale, pianist, to perform excerpts from Messiaen's Catalogue d'oiseaux and Petites Esquisses d'oiseaux. Messiaen became fascinated by birdsong in his later years, using astonishingly accurate notation of birdsong within these pieces. Oxford choir, Commotio will perform choral pieces inspired by birds, including lesser known works by Stanford, Ravel and Hindemith. RSPB will be on hand to promote the work they are doing with local partners to improve the breeding prospects and habitat for swifts in Oxford. Oxford Swift City Project has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and will run from 2017- 2018. Further events about Oxford Swift City Project will be included in Oxford Festival of Nature.
