Programme Note

Sad as we are that SJE Arts is to close this summer, Commotio are determined to go out with a joyous bang! The choir welcomes back Raph Mizrati, featured on their 2016 recording at SJE ‘All Good Things’,  this time performing the jazz-inspired works by John Rutter.

Commotio is pleased to introduce assistant conductor, Tim Robson, who will direct alongside Matthew Berry for this concert. Drawing on the choir’s Oxford heritage, Tim has selected works by Danny Saleeb, and Grayston Ives: student and tutor at Magdalene college.

The repertoire has a strong Scandinavian flavour, with music by Rautavaara, Jennefelt, Folke Rabe and Mia Makaroff. Texts in Spanish, Finnish and in the case of Jennefelt, Nonsense, will all test the choir’s linguistic talents.

Join Commotio in making the very most of the fantastic concert space whilst we have the chance.
