Programme Note
A concert of beautiful Baroque music with an Italian theme.
Following on from their acclaimed performance of Bach’s B Minor Mass, Choros and Corona Baroque Ensemble return to SJE for this programme of choral, vocal and instrumental works culminating in Handel’s glorious, Italian-influenced cantata ‘Dixit Dominus’. One of the most exciting and challenging choral works of the period, this setting of Psalm 110 ranges from the dramatic to the sublime.
The Handel is complemented by one of J S Bach’s few secular cantatas, Non sa che sia dolore, in which the soloists are the up-and-coming young soprano Bethany Seymour along with Rachel Latham on flute.
Also in the programme is Corelli’s forward-looking Concerto Grosso opus 6 no 7, one of the works that influenced the style of Handel own Concerti.
