Programme Note
Janet Lincé’s inventive programming for Corona Strings has devised an all-American celebration for their Autumn concert on 30th September 2017 which will include evocative string works by favourite composers including Gershwin and Copland. More unusual works being performed include ‘Pioneer Dances’, written in 1970 by composer and conductor Peggy Stuart Coolidge, which was inspired by the 19th century settlers of America. David Diamond’s ‘Rounds’; probably his most popular work, are three short and contrasting movements full of foot-tapping American folk influences. And Arthur Foote’s ‘Suite for Strings’, with its playful pizzicato, was premiered and first recorded by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1944 under Serge Koussevitzky.
