Their stylistic paths could not be more different – Chaminade maintained her Romantic style throughout her long life, often following many of her French peers in avoiding Wagner’s influence by turning to le style ancien, after Grieg’s example. By contrast, Pejačević’s style evolves greatly during her short life, and she carefully walks the tightrope of both following the Germanic late-romanticism and staying true to her Croatian origins.
