Programme Note

“The Minguet Quartet are passionately committed advocates…this is a tremendous performance, full of fire and imagination.” – Gramophone

For their welcome return to Conway Hall, the German Minguet Quartet foreground the fourth string quartet by Pēteris Vasks, who celebrates his 80th birthday in 2026. Either side of the Vasks come Mozart’s D minor quartet, dedicated to Haydn, and Brahms’ first essay in the genre, of which the composer wrote that as Mozart had gone to “particular trouble” in composing six “beautiful” Haydn Quartets, he had done his “very best to turn out one or two passably decent ones.”
