Programme Note
As well as being Director of Music at Conway Hall, Simon Callaghan is also an internationally acclaimed concert pianist and recording artist, having most recently released his second disc for Hyperion's lauded Romantic Piano Concerto series. In a solo recital to raise money for Conway Hall Sunday Concerts, Simon Callaghan presents a programme of his favourite music, from the drama of Beethoven's ever-popular sonata to the virtuosity of Schubert's 'Wanderer' Fantasy of which the composer was reported to have said "the devil may play it". He devotes the second half of the concert to Robert Schumann, concluding with Carnaval, an appropriately exciting and passionate work with strong autobiographical influences.
