Programme Note
“The performances I’ve so far heard with violinist Baker…have had a supernaturally beautiful atmosphere, the fruit of serious readiness combined with cultured musicianship and flawless intonation.” – The Arts Desk
Described by The New York Times as bringing “virtuosity, refinement, and youthful exuberance” to his Merkin Concert Hall debut, Benjamin Baker has established himself as a sought-after soloist and chamber musician, performing widely across Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally. With regular duo partner Daniel Lebhardt, Ben makes his debut at Conway Hall in a wide-ranging programme, not to be missed!
Pre-Concert Recital at 5.30pm with the Antar Quartet
Students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, we are pleased to welcome the Antar Quartet for their debut at Conway Hall. The last of the 6 ‘Tost’ quartets opens their short programme, which is completed by Sri Lankan-born Canadian composer Dinuk Wijeratne’s 2022 work, described by the composer as a “virtuoso musical escapade for string quartet, inspired by the audacious, real-life theft of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa from the Louvre Museum in 1911”.
PROGRAMME:
Haydn | Quartet in E flat Op.64/6
Dinuk Wijeratne | The Disappearance of Lisa Gherardini
