Programme Note
Formed of some of London’s finest musicians, Elena Toponogova’s ensemble makes their Conway Hall début in a programme showcasing the finest in Russian and Ukrainian chamber works. Nikolai Medtner, a Russian composer and friend of Sergei Rachmaninoff who resided in Golders Green, North London for the last 16 years of his life, is increasingly becoming recognised as one of the most important Russian composers for the piano. His last work, the Piano Quintet, which he worked on for over 40 years, completes this fascinating programme.
We are grateful to the Oleg Prokofiev Trust for their support of this evening’s programme.
About the Sunday Concerts
Founded in the 1880s, our chamber music concert series is the longest-running of its kind in Europe. Conway Hall was purpose-built in 1929 to host concerts and lectures, and they have continued here until the present day. The ethos of “affordable classical music for all” still remains.
