Programme Note

Named after the song that inspired Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Wagner’s Siegfried Idyllthat was written as a present to his wife on the birth of their child Siegfried, this concert truly is a gift to be cherished.

Featuring some of the most emotionally charged, inspiring and tender music ever written, this concert will be even more special as it takes place in the grandiose setting of Derby Cathedral, one of Derby’s most emotive and moving spaces.

Starting with the creation of earth with Milhaud’s La Creation du Monde, the concert will leap across continents and musical history with music from Martinu and Wagner, before finishing firmly on American soil with the stirring and instantly recognisable Appalachian Spring.

Played by Sinfonia Viva, a Grammy nominated Orchestra and conducted by Sinfonia Viva’s Principal Conductor Duncan Ward, this concert is sure to live long in the memory.

This concert is part of the Twilights series, where Derby Cathedral and Sinfonia Viva present the highest quality live music, in the grandest of settings.
