Programme Note
City Music Foundation Artist Tabea Debus releases her third album – her second on German label TYXart – on 6th April 2018.
The album presents a complete recording of Georg Philipp Telemann’s XII Fantasie per il Flauto senza Basso [Twelve Fantasias for Unaccompanied Flute] interspersed with twelve new works, commissioned by City Music Foundation. Each new composition – written by leading composers such as Colin Matthews and Ronald Corp as well as fellow CMF Artists Misha Mullov-Abbado and Alastair Penman – is a response to one of the twelve Fantasias. Together, they form a rich anthology, a hybrid work, which is both a natural extension of Telemann’s own stylistic eclecticism, and a true picture of what it is to be a recorder player in the 21st century.
Join Tabea and the City Music Foundation to celebrate the culmination of this innovative project at Dr Johnson's House, nestled in the West of the City of London. Samuel Johnson (1709-1784), the great lexicographer, was a direct contemporary of Telemann (1681-1767) and it was in the attic of this charming townhouse – where the concert will take place – that he compiled his Dictionary of the English Language.
Your ticket will include a glass of wine and the album will be available to be purchased and signed by Tabea after the performance.
Please note the early start time of 6.30pm.
