Add to my Calendar 21-11-2015 19:30 21-11-2015 21:30 36 Haydn: The Creation From the swirling discord of chaos, to the ordered beauty in the Garden of Eden, Haydn’s great oratorio, The Creation, is full of wonderful musical descriptions, which will be brought out in exquisite detail by the period instruments of the Durham Singers Ensemble, led by Caroline Balding. Samling Artist Bradley Travis leads the trio of angels who guide us through Haydn’s universe, whilst the other two angels, and the parts of Adam and Eve will be sung by rising stars from Samling Academy. The Durham Singers return to Haydn’s original intentions in their choice of words, using an edition based on the original English libretto that Haydn studied in London and that he used for his own English performances. Children’s event, 3pm Younger children and their families are invited to come along to Durham Cathedral during our afternoon rehearsal, when at 3pm, children from six local primary schools who have been working on art projects inspired by the Creation will join us in singing “The Heavens are Telling”. Pre concert talk Dr Giles Gaspar from Durham’s Institute for Advanced Studies will give a pre-concert talk at 7pm in the Cathedral nave entitled “Creation Songs”, free to ticket holders. Come and Sing Workshop – 10 October Local singers are invited to join the Durham Singers in a Come and Sing Creation workshop on 10 October at Durham Johnston School – details at www.durham-singers.org Book both events together and save £5.
