Programme Note

Trio Ecossaise comprises three of Scotland’s finest chamber musicians who, in addition to their own busy careers, have enjoyed playing chamber music together for fifteen years. Their repertoire combines original works and arrangements, and both are represented in their programme for us, showcasing female composers.

Louise Farrenc was a highly respected musician, teacher and composer in 19th century France (the only female professor at the Paris Conservatoire in that century), and her clarinet trio is a fine example of her individual voice. Gwyneth Walker is a prolific composer with over 350 works to her name. Her 1990 ‘Craftsbury Trio’ is an affectionate homage to a small town in her home state of Vermont. The final work needs little introduction, and it will be fascinating to compare this arrangement with the original piano trio that we heard in November 2018.

“Holy Trinity Church was filled with wonderful music performed by the hugely talented Trio Ecossaise... the combination was sublime... a superb performance.”  (Crail Festival, 2017)
