Programme Note

Award winning Guildford Opera’s production of Verdi’s opera ‘Nabucco’ is fully staged, sung in English and accompanied by a chamber orchestra.  It is full of unforgettable arias and rousing choruses, including the famous lament, ‘The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves’. Set in 6th century BCE, it follows the plight of the Hebrews as Nabucco, King of Babylon, destroys Jerusalem and exiles them to slavery in Babylon. The opera also weaves in a love triangle between Nabucco’s daughters and a Hebrew prince and a power struggle between Nabucco and his daughter, Abigail.

Performances on Wednesday 13 and Friday 15 at 7.30pm, Saturday 16 at 6.30pm.

Preshow talk by directors at 6.30 pm before Friday performance.
