Programme Note

We are delighted to have four young soloists in our June concert when they will be performing Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Wind in E flat, K 297bThe soloists in this popular work will be Rebecca Whitehouse (oboe), James Gilbert (clarinet), Daria Phillips (bassoon) and Jordan Wilson (horn).  All of them are either students or former students of  Latymer School in Edmonton;   Rebecca is currently on a gap year before starting at the Royal College of Music, and James is going to the Royal Academy of Music in September.  They are also all members of the Enfield Young Symphony Orchestra.

Our concert, entitled “Summer Celebration” will also include works by the Cornish composer Judith Bailey in celebration of her 75th birthday; her Concerto for 10 wind instruments, and her arrangement of the Sarabande from Debussy’s “Pour le Piano”.   We shall also be performing John Ireland’s haunting and evocative Concertino Pastorale, which dates from 1939, and Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, – a delicate, peaceful birthday gift for his wife Cosima.
