Programme Note

Vale of Glamorgan Festival presents the European premiere of one of John Luther Adams’ most recent works, Lines Made by Walking. Premiered at the exclusive Death of Classical series in New York in August 2019, it’s only been heard by a few people and so we really can’t tell you that much about it yet! Join us to be the first in Europe to have the privilege of experiencing it.

This second concert with Carducci Quartet takes you to an atmospheric 12th century church in the West of the Vale of Glamorgan, Ewenny Priory.

The group also play Huw Watkins’ 2013 String Quartet, a piece they premiered and therefore know intimately. We then hear Gradual by Tarik O’Regan. Similar to John Luther Adams’ music, the piece is inspired by nature, in this case the composer’s 500 mile journey around the wilds of Idaho, one of the USA’s most sparsely-populated states.
