Programme Note

In a candlelit programme of words and music award-winning period ensemble Charivari Agréable marks the quatercentenary of Prince Charles’ diplomatically disastrous courtship of the Infanta of Spain, the publication of Shakespeare’s First Folio, and the death of iconic English composer William Byrd in 1623, with sonnets, extracts from Cymbeline, King of Britain and Love’s Labour’s Lost, and anecdotes from the reigns Elizabeth I & James I, featuring Elizabeth’s famous Tilbury speech. Music by Byrd, Dowland, Ortiz, etc., including our distinctive interpretation of the Gaspar Fernandes villancico No haya más.
