Programme Note
All singers, new or experienced, are warmly invited to join us for our next Come & Sing on Saturday 15th June in Muswell Hill, North London. The morning will preview one of our Christmas pieces - Britten's Ceremony of Carols - and the afternoon will take a look at Borodin's Polovtsian Dances which is being performed by Fortismere Community Symphony Orchestra on 6th July.
The five movements of the Britten we're going to cover are:
Wolcom Yole! / There is no rose / Balulalow / As Dew in Aprille and This Little Babe. Britten originally wrote the piece for children's choir, but we're singing a later SATB arrangement. Many of the movements are written as rounds or call-and-response pieces – lyrically simple for the sake of the children performing, yet brilliant and dramatic. Understandably one of Britten's best-known and most-performed choral works!
Just £10 for the day, the workshop will be led by Cathal Garvey with John Eady accompanying. Book at www.fortismeremusiccentre.co.uk or pay on the door.
