Programme Note

The Galos Trio with soprano and actor Sarah Gabriel tell the story of one young woman's indomitable ambition...

Against the will of her father, the young Ethel Smyth travelled to Leipzig in 1877 and her journey to become Englan's most famous female composer commenced.

She became friends with Brahms, Clara Schumann, Grieg and Tchaikovsky. She made the most of every opportunity and wrote extensively in her diaries about her encounters with these great characters.
