Programme Note

In 1757 a medal was struck to commemorate
Hungary’s defeat by Frederick the Great of
Prussia – a medal which became a token for a foundling named Priscilla the following year. This concert brings together cello music from Germany and Hungary with works by Brahms and Popper, along with Alfred Schnittke’s introspective Second Cello Sonata.
