Programme Note

As midsummer draws nearer, Pinsuti have planned a dreamtime selection of summer music, featuring choral works spanning four centuries.

The concert will include some fabulous examples of Eric Whitacre’s choral writing, ranging from the sacred “Lux Aurumque”, his “Alleluia” and “Sleep” to the quite unique “Leonardo dreams of his Flying Machine”. Whitacre's music is both utterly modern and wonderfully tuneful, a delight to the ear.

We revisit Vaughan Williams’ beautiful “Three Shakespeare Songs”, along with items by Sandström and Mäntyjärvi and introduce two works by Ešenvalds. Lovers of early music will enjoy sacred Tudor works by Gibbons and Byrd.

Finally, no summer concert would be complete without some old favourites such as “Blue Moon” and “Over the Rainbow”.

We hope you will join us for our concert in this delightful setting in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
